#Build Back Blue: Green Energy to Charge the Blue Economy

A consortium of partners collaborating to implement EDA’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge

Our carefully selected projects and long-term workforce and innovation programs promise to transform our region into a global hub for green technology development across the blue economy and beyond.

Washington Maritime Blue is leading a coalition to expand our regional growth cluster in partnership with an ecosystem of state and local governments, port and transit authorities, industry leaders, utilities, community groups, universities and research institutions, investors, and regional innovators.

We are working to develop and deploy a series of projects and programs along the continuum from renewable energy generation to zero-emission fuels. It is a novel, transformative, equitable, and highly replicable framework to leverage the region’s green energy resources to supercharge the blue economy.

Focused on Washington State and the greater Pacific Northwest Region, these projects will connect the dots between our blue economy cluster and other sectors to jumpstart the commercialization of new technologies that decarbonize heavy-duty transportation. When successful, this series of projects and collaborative programs can generate thousands of jobs, develop billions of dollars in new economic activity, address critical regional equity concerns, reduce emissions for our disproportionately affected communities and provide a resilient foundation for sustainable economic growth. Read the discussion draft covering economic analysis of the maritime and clean energy sectors in Washington.

Our coalition is bringing together aligned cluster organizations across sectors to grow the ecosystem and enable the commercialization of new technologies, from initial concept through deployment.
